By no means, drugs are not something new at all. They have been around for so long and will continue to be a part of our society whether we would like it to be or not. In recent years though, drug have made gains in the number of people who are trying and using them. The Substance Abuse and Health Services Administration surveyed 70,000 American people ages 12 or older about their drug use in 2012 and found that there was an increase in heroin and marijuana use compared to surveys done in the past. I think that part of this is the mentality that people, mostly younger people, have assumed towards drugs. A lot of popular music artists have included drugs in their lyrics and music videos, portraying drugs as something, possibly more positive that the reality. People like Dr. Dre, Wiz Khalifa, and Miley Cyrus have incorporated marijuana, molly, and other drugs into their image and show them as something that is fun, exciting, and something you do at parties and at clubs.
All in all, I think that drug use is something only to be decided by the individual. If you want to smoke weed, do cocaine, or take molly, then that's fine by me. People should just know the possible ramifications of taking these drugs before hand and make your decision from there.
According to a recent statistic, we've apparently lost the "drug war" we've been trying to fight in the southern part of the United States because of the popularity of "smokin weed ery day". I believe that you're right in that they should be able to do what they want, but once it affects someone else's life, then something should be done. Honestly, I think it's the same for alcohol. No one cares if you're drunk on your ass at home, but once you get in a car and start driving, shit hits the fan and you're busted. Some drugs should probably be legalized for recreation, but there should definitely be limits.
ReplyDeleteAs a hip-hop and rap fan I listen to a lot of music that includes drugs. This was not much of a problem years back or I may have been too young to tell. But I believe many people are peer pressured and led in the wrong directions by their favorite artists. Drugs should not be fantasized in song lyrics. "Smokin weed ery day" is common for popular artists such as Wiz Khalifa. But for many fans that are in school and trying to get a degree marijuana is not something you should be smoking. Cigarettes are just as harmful as marijuana is yet cigarettes are sold legally. If younger people had more positive role models then that can play in creating a drug-free world.
