Orange Is The New Black

The Netflix show Orange is the New Black has been a huge hit since it came out earlier this year. There are a lot of popular TV shows about prison life, and there are also a lot of TV shows that have an LGBT aspect. But Orange is the New Black is the only popular TV show that is about being LGBT and being in prison, as well as discussing many other issues such as drugs and relationships.

Piper Chapman is sentenced to 15 months in prison when she is convicted of a crime she committed a decade ago with her ex-girlfriend. The show follows Chapman through her time in prison. She deals with drama with her ex-girlfriend as well as other inmates. There is also drama between Chapman and her fiancee, Larry.

So what makes Orange is the New Black such a popular show?

There are many different aspects of the show, which make it likable by many different types of people. The show as a whole has kind of a "dark" humor and overall feel to it, but there is also a lot of humor. There are references to both drugs and religion, though it's mostly making fun of religion. There is an LGBT aspect and  Piper and her ex-girlfriend have an affair when they are in prison together.

Orange is the New Black only has 13 episodes in the first season, and people are demanding more. Season 2 is expected to air sometime in 2014.

  1. I honestly LOVE this show! Season two can't come fast enough! I have literally watching this season alone more than 4 times because it is just that good. I love how it's funny, but also serious at the same time because I really feel like I am having the experience if being in prison when I'm at home on my couch watching it.
