The new technological advancements with phones has been a big help to its providers. With the creation of the smartphones the basic texting and calling only phone has grown distant. Well yeah those are out of date you might say. But if that was the case why would phone providers still offer the basic plan with just texting and calling? I'm not saying that they aren't out there they are just getting harder and harder find these days.

One of the many few basic (dumb) phones left

Verizon charges ten bucks a month to get the basic coverage if you are on a plan with other people. If you are on a one person plan it is somewhere around 30 dollars for unlimited. Change that plan to smartphones, for a multi plan the charge is around 30 dollars per phone and solo plan it is around 50-60 dollars. That is good profit for the providers and also the actual smartphone is close to 600 dollars. Don't mention the contract which obligates you to stay on the plan for at least two years. The basic phone will eventually be gone forever, but then what will the people who cant afford the smartphone in a world that almost demands that kind of technology in everyone's hand. Something to think about.....
Nothing wrong with old school phones. A few examples of people that still use them are the elderly (like my Grandpa), my daughter because I won't buy her a smart phone until she is older, and drug dealer love throw phones. The old phones I think will always have a small place in the cell phone world.
