To the Fields of Justice

"DEMACIA" -Garen April 2010-Present
Garen is a playable character, called a "champion" in the free-to-play game League of Legends.  This game, created by Riot Games, has amassed a following of millions, including myself.  It is free to play, but people easily spend hundreds (sadly, I am a perfect example) to buy points for new character textures called "skins".  Since it's conception, it has exponentially grown in popularity and lucrative opportunity.  There are people making a living from playing this game and streaming it for others to watch.  But maybe I'm getting ahead of myself...

Free, Fun, what else could you ask for?

League of Legends is a MOBA game, which stands for multiplayer online battle arena.  It is an action real-time strategy game in which two teams of players compete with each other.  The goal of the game is to destroy the enemy's "Nexus", which is located in the other's base and prevent yours from being destroyed.  There are fairly strong turrets to defend your base, so there is no first second rush strategies here.  The game is mostly played out by farming the monsters or "creeps" that spawn in the natural lanes on the map.
The most popular map is called "Summoner's Rift", which is the 5v5 team objective mode.

The game has attained national fame and now it's hard to find someone internet savvy who hasn't heard of the League.  In fact, HBO very recently did an interview with one of the game's most popular and wisest players: William "scarra" Li.

It is a hot trend that is still growing to this day with a following of millions.  If you are interested in playing the game, click the link here to register and download the client.  If you're interested in the game and want to know more / have any questions, just ask here.  Now the question I present to all of you:

Do you think professional gaming is a real sport?  Why or why not?

  1. I've been playing this game for about a little over a year now. I love how they give new updates every few weeks or so and add a new champion to their plentiful pool. It is very competitive but win or lose, this game is very enjoyable. I usually play 3v3 because games go by a lot quicker since I don't have time to play for 30+ minutes. This is a game I'd definitely recommend if you don't want to spend money on gaming.
