The Gaming Brand Loyalty

So which is the better console? Xbox One or Playstation 4? With the fast approaching holidays ahead of us, Sony and Microsoft both unveiled their latest creations back in E3 earlier this year. Both showcased amazing new games and new ways of implementing today's technology into compact systems for home usage. So the answer comes down to which to get and why someone should other than a gamer choose to buy a gaming console. That is determined on what the console is going to be used for. Microsoft is aimed more at the home media aspect of the household while the Play Station is aimed at more at the gaming community in general.
What the Xbox One does in terms on entertainment is providing inputs for the cable box and other TV devices to connect to. This means that the dashboard on the Xbox will display channels next to online multimedia based in the Xbox One Oneguide. With Kinect support integrated into the Xbox, speaking aloud to Kinect can also get to channels faster and more efficiently. This also comes with a downside as there will starting price of $500 for the console and a premium of 60 a year for Xbox Live which will allow the use of Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and Microsofts own media and movies. All media apps will need the use of Xbox Live in order for access to be granted on the Xbox One.

Sony on the other hand will be able to do the same with what the Xbox can do but not allow other devices connect to the device as a central hub. Sony will have access to Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and Sony Entertainment Network. Both will allow purchases or rentals of music and movies but the differences is on the availability of products that both serve out to the masses. The Play Station 4 starts at 400 dollars with no yearly fees unless the aim for the Play Station is to play multiplayer games then there will be a 60 dollar yearly fee. All the access to the media apps will not be charged by Sony and be free of charge.

In the end both consoles bring a lot to the aspect of home entertainment and both have their ups and downs. But the ultimate purchasing choice comes from the person handing the cash over to which ever system they prefer.

  1. The tech specs get lost on a lot of people who are just blinded by fanboyism. Before the xbox 360 and ps3 came out i sat and told myself i was going to wait for the ps3. That didnt take long to change. Once i played the 360, after being a playstation fan for the previous two gens, i was hooked. In my opinion the cost of xboxlive is well worth it. $5 bucks a month? Can you REALLY be that stingy to pay $400+ for a gaming console and then complain about $5 a month? Netflix/hulu and all the entertainment options are just bonuses. I couldn't care less about their integration. Im still eagerly awaiting the XboxOne launch next week. Im just thankful i dont have class on Fridays.
