Is Twitter Taking Over? Battle of Social Networking.

Facebook vs Twitter
Tweet us @; Follow us @; #Twitter, What happened to like us on Facebook? Or like our page? Or Subscribe to us on Facebook? Twitter is slowly becoming the world next best social networking site, and according to Twitter and The Huffington Post, Twitter has 554,750,000 active registered users. On average 58 million tweets get tweeted each day. However Facebook still remains the worlds largest social networking site with 1,110,000,000 active users, according to Facebook. Twitter is an online social networking website and micro blogging service that allows users to post and read text-based messages of up to 140 characters, known as “tweets”. Launched in July of 2006 by Jack Dorsey.

Just Tweet It.

Twitter is one of the top 10 most visited sites. Twitter is starting to appear everywhere. Tweeting has become a default setting on most electronic devices. Such as when you take a picture on your iPhone you can tweet it right away. Most companies stopped asking viewers to like their page on Facebook, rather they ask views to follow them on Twitter. Facebook users connect with friends, family, colleagues and other acquaintances. They use the network to share commentary, post interesting content in the form of videos and photos, and engage in activities such as polls or games. On the other hand Twitter is used for a more professional input. Twitter is used for trends and popular culture in the media. Most famous celebrities and athletes have joined and are currently active on twitter. Twitter verifies the celebrity by putting a blue check by their name.
Another reason Twitter is widely recognized is because of "hash tags". In definition a hash tag is a word or phrase preceded by a hash mark (#), used within a message to identify a keyword or topic of interest and facilitate a search for it. An example would be the hash tag #sandiegofire was used to help coordinate an emergency response to the fire. Or someone who could say, "The MTV awards were awesome #VMAS, all the stories relating to the MTV awards can be found if someone uses or searches #VAMS. Celebrity Justin Bieber also released a new hit single called "#thatPOWER".

Why Twitter? Twitter is gaining users everyday. What is it that makes twitter more appealing than other social networking sites? I currently have a Twitter, and I prefer it over Facebook. On Facebook you find meaningless posts. Such as like for heaven or ignore for hell. See what I mean? I personally enjoy the layout of twitter and also how it limits to only 140 characters, which cuts out most spam. People also prefer twitter because nothing is censored. It is all free speech. Twitter is a place where people can interact with others around the globe. It is a website where you can be always informed on what is going on. There will always be competition between twitter and Facebook. Even though Facebook is currently ahead, Twitter is not far behind.

  1. I like this article because it's definitely relevant to people in our generation. It seems like everyone now has a twitter and a facebook. I remember my first social media networking site I first started off with was Myspace, now like a lot of others, I never use it anymore and only check and update my twitter and facebook. I never really used to like twitter, but now I can say it's easily my favorite between twitter and facebook.

    1. I definetley agree, facebook has become outdated and is being used for puropes other than social networking like games. Twitter has a more sophisticated and appealing surface.

  2. I really liked this article. I don't have a Twitter account, but it is the becoming the "next big thing". I think the reason more people go on Twitter is like you said that people like to interacts with others around the world. Twitter is the closest thing to getting close to a celebrity or knowing what they are doing.

    1. Yup, because on Facebook fan pages are created, not the actual celebrity account. Twitter verifies that the actual celebrity is tweeting by a blue check so you get authentic tweets.

  3. I believe that twitter is taking over too. Facebook hasnt been able to compete with twitter. Twitter is so simple and is so much easier to look at tweets and post tweets. I feel like facebook almost has too much going on. I personally like twitter better just because its much easier and faster. I feel like at somepoint in the future there will be a new social network that will take over but right now it is twitter.
