Think before you Ink

Many celebrities are showing of their new skin designs also known as "tattoo". R&B artist Chris Brown has a sugar skull which is based on Mexican Culture's Day of the Dead, but many see it as a woman's bruised face.
As the popularity of tattoos continue to increase so do the potential risks. Permanent tattoos are made by using a "tattoo gun" which has a needle to inject ink into the skin's surface. As the popularity of tattoos continue to increase so do the potential risks. Your skin is pricked between 50 and 3,000 times per minute by a needle in the tattoo machine when receiving a tattoo. Sterilization plays an essential role in tattooing. Dirty needles can transmit syphilis, hepatitis B and HIV. Research has found that some pigments used in tattoos have metal, which can cause pain during a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) test. NCTR studies show that a common pigment used in yellow tattoo inks, Pigment Yellow 74, may be broken down by enzymes, or metabolized. And people may even have an allergic reaction to the pigments, so you should be careful when choosing a color for your next piece of art.

Tattoos are now becoming a source for permanent make-up products such as an eyebrow pencil, lip liner, eyeliner or even blush. Which have the same risks as a regular body tattoo. It is very important after receiving a tattoo to get proper instruction on how to care for your tattoo to avoid infections caused by bacteria.

  1. I agree that they can be dangerous to your image or be detrimental to your self image. Although, I think it also shows confidence within oneself. It's an act of self confidence and people will take whatever you do and spin it. Most anything Chris Brown does now, after Rhianna and his fiasco, will be turned on his trying to showcase it or condone it.

  2. I feel that tattoos are a way of expression. A tattoo is a life time commitment. Proper care is always neccesary to avoid infections. Please make sure that you go to a safe, sanitary place to get a tattoo done to avoid the slightest chance of getting a disease from an infected needle.

  3. I agree it can be dangerous with dirty needles and what not but, it's a good way to express something you really care about. With proper care and using clean needles you shouldn't really have a problem with getting illnesses.

  4. It's important to only be tattooed by state-licensed professional tattooers at state-licensed shops. If a place looks dirty, it seems pretty obvious that one would not choose to get tattooed there. Tattoos can be quite beautiful and meaningful, or they can be poorly done or just ridiculous. Either way, I'm not sure I care how other people choose to adorn their bodies.
